We met while attending college at Kansas State University in Manhattan Kansas, Todd a Biology major and Sheila studying Organizational Psychology. Sheila was born and raised in small towns in Northwest Kansas and Todd was born in Green Bay Wisconsin and later moved to the Kansas City area. Who knew that our paths would cross and Todd would drag the small town girl to the city where they began their life together as a blended family in 1996. Together we have 4 daughters, Breanna, Brittany, Teryn and Allison, 2 awesome son in-laws, Tyler & Adel and we are Mema & Papa to the most amazing 6 grandkids we could ask for Ethan, Logan, Tristan, Adilynn, Madisynn, & Colton. Yes, they all end with the letter “n” and as a typical grandparent, we call them all each others names, till we arrive at the right one. Our family means the world to us and yet, we have chosen to not see them as often, for a season, to switch things up and chase a dream. A dream that involves you.
You see, in August 2019 after watching Todd’s mom struggle with breast cancer for 10 years, she finally got to rest. Fast forward just 4 short months to December 2019 and Sheila’s dad passed away from an open heart surgery. We each lost a parent in their 60’s, talk about rocking our world. In our grief, the reality of how short life really is set in and the conversation started about just downsizing and traveling for awhile. And this is where the story of Switch It Up begins.
The conversation went something like this:
Todd: “what if we just switch things up for a bit and go see the things we want to see.”
Sheila: “what about our kids, jobs & money?”
Todd: “we will start a YouTube Channel, share with others and see what happens”.
After many conversations and prayers we took the leap and the word Switch took on a whole new meaning.
You see this journey is not just about Todd & Sheila, it’s about you too.
